• QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise:

It has batch invoicing facility. Dealing with the multiple clients would be easy with this feature if the service you are offering and the amount to be taken is the same for all. QuickBooks Desktop gives you the capability of multiple invoicing. It also offers us the industry specific features for the firms like General Business, Contractor, Manufacturing & Wholesale, Professional Services, Retail, and Non-profit. QuickBooks Online does not offer industry-specific features. To track your inventory, QuickBooks Desktop gives you two options: average cost method and FIFO (First In – First Out) option. FIFO option would be available to you when you will purchase the Advanced Add-on module which is being offered at a minimal price by QuickBooks. The online species of the same has only FIFO option.

To use the QuickBooks Desktop perfectly, first, you have to make one-time purchase and set-up in your system. Till 2007, the desktop version was only for the Windows users. After that, the makers expanded it to the Linux.

• QuickBooks Online:

If your business has clients from around the globe and wants them to access your data from anywhere in the world, then QuickBooks online is preferable for you. By entering correct id and password, your client can access the data you have put.

Unlike the desktop one, the online version does not require any software to be downloaded, it is platform independent. It does not matter whether you are using a Windows, or a Linux or a MAC system. You just have to open a web browser on it to start doing your work. For the first 30 days, you will be provided the free trial. After that, you have to pay for it.

Whenever you update your data, it keeps saving the changes automatically, not just for you but for the every user attached with the file. You do not have to worry about the changes being lost in some abrupt situation like electricity cut down or anything.

In short, you should use QuickBooks Hosting Online only if your business doesn't need features like inventory tracking options, multiple invoicing and most importantly the industry specific approach. Otherwise, the desktop version would be the better solution for you.
